US inventory, selected deeper research
The published directory contains 86,807 inventory listings across 9,178 US cities and towns in 50 states and Washington, DC. It covers eligible AFDC inventory plus source-screened Open Charge Map and OpenStreetMap additions; it is not a guarantee that every charger is listed. 31 stops include reviewed venue or municipal evidence beyond the inventory record. The remaining stops should not be mistaken for equally deep amenity coverage. The current venue research covers selected destinations in several states; it is not uniform nationwide verification.
4,145 supplementary listings received a lightweight source-data check for rights, coordinates, access notes, charging details and obvious duplicates. This is not independent confirmation that equipment works today. Mapped chargers with unconfirmed operation appear in ordinary discovery; the inventory-status filter can narrow results to “Listed operational”. 2,163 listings have no source-supplied city and appear in state and map searches without an invented city or address.
Separate source records can describe equipment at the same destination. We retain their identities until grouping evidence is reviewed; these counts do not represent independently verified unique physical places. Potential overlaps are noted in each affected listing’s evidence.
How much is known?
- Venue research
- 31 listings with additional arrival or amenity evidence
- Unknown power
- 6310 listings include at least one configuration without a power rating
- Older confirmations
- 10975 listings have missing or older-than-180-day source confirmation dates, as of Oct 7, 2026
The current inventory was fetched on Oct 7, 2026. Our underlying AFDC import tooling supports a US/Canada foundation, but US territories, Canadian and other international records are not published in this release.
What was included and excluded?
The national release selects eligible US records with usable coordinates and charging configurations. Explicit employee-only, residential-only, fleet-only, private and service-only records are excluded even when the source’s general flag says public. Conditional public access is marked restricted. Retained unavailable listings keep their stable URLs and clearly stated status; they are excluded from default search and nearby recommendations.
Existing reviewed groupings are preserved. New same-address candidates are flagged for review, not automatically merged. The broader inventory received data validation and access-note screening; it has not received an individual venue website review for every listing.
Where information comes from
The primary charging source is the U.S. Department of Energy Alternative Fuels Data Center. AFDC IDs remain attached to each stop, including where several records describe one reviewed installation. See the AFDC API documentation and field definitions.
Selected arrival and amenity notes come from official venue and municipal websites. Each station links to its evidence. A website review confirms what that source says; it is not a physical visit. We do not infer a restroom from a restaurant, accessible bays from a venue’s general accessibility, or trailer space from a large parking lot.
Three dates, three meanings
- Source confirmed
- When the source says the charging details were last confirmed. Missing dates remain unlisted.
- Source updated
- When the upstream record changed. An update does not necessarily recheck every field.
- Fetched / reviewed
- When we retrieved the inventory or read the cited venue page. Recent retrieval alone does not make older facts fresh.
How we keep charging details useful
We model the physical stop, each installation or network, charging units, ports and connector configurations separately. Multiple cables do not automatically become multiple simultaneously usable ports. Nearby networks stay distinct unless source evidence supports grouping.
Connector and minimum-power filters match one configuration. Unknown power fails a strict threshold. Network eligibility and adapter support are separate questions, so our connector preferences do not promise vehicle compatibility.
Public, guest-only, customer-only, other restricted and unknown access remain distinct. Charging, venue and amenity hours are kept separate. Tariffs stay as dated text when a comparable price cannot be calculated accurately; parking or access fees may still apply.
This is inventory, not live occupancy
A source listing marked operational does not prove a free port is available now. No live-availability feed is connected to this release. Check the network’s current information and keep an alternative in mind.
How records become public
- Imported: a central source snapshot is preserved, with retrieval time and source identifiers.
- Reviewed: normalization, crosswalks, licences and unusual changes are checked. Empty imports, large deletions and implausible changes are held for review.
- Published: an explicitly promoted release supplies the pages. A failed import leaves the last good release in place.
Visitor corrections enter review; submitting one does not immediately change a listing or create a public review. Use the correction form to describe a factual problem. When online submissions are unavailable, the form lets you retain a local copy.
Attribution and rights
Supplementary charging data: Open Charge Map contributors under CC BY 4.0 (provider-specific notices on each profile), and © OpenStreetMap contributors under ODbL 1.0. We offer the complete combined normalized database for download under ODbL, with original content notices retained. State assignments use U.S. Census Bureau 2025 generalized state boundaries; these do not verify a street address or entrance.
Charging inventory: U.S. Department of Energy Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC), via the National Laboratory of the Rockies developer API. The developer terms permit reuse for any purpose, subject to their conditions. No agency endorsement is implied.
Venue facts are short summaries linked to their original publishers; their photographs, logos and marketing copy are not republished. This site is independent and does not imply endorsement by a venue or network.
Maps and directions
The optional map uses OpenStreetMap data, © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License. Map tiles follow a separate tile-service policy. Directions are provided by an external map service. Our distances are straight-line unless explicitly stated otherwise.
The retained Open Charge Map export is dated April 22, 2026 and was downloaded October 7; its individual record dates are preserved. The OpenStreetMap snapshot was retrieved October 7, 2026. Neither source supplies live occupancy here. Licence-held providers, stale AFDC mirrors and unresolved overlaps with existing installations remain outside this addition batch.
What comes next
The priority is deeper entrance, access and amenity evidence for useful stops, dependable refreshes and corrections. Canadian and international expansion requires suitable source coverage and rights. Live occupancy, maintained vehicle eligibility and trip planning need additional integrations. They are not implied by the map or by a listed power rating.
