Not every Supercharger has the same access
Tesla distinguishes Tesla-only sites, sites with a built-in Magic Dock adapter for other EVs, and NACS access opening to supported manufacturers. Its app or map uses vehicle details to identify compatible locations.
Check the exact location for the car you will drive. A nearby Supercharger marker, another driver’s experience or a broad network announcement is not enough to settle access for your trip.
An adapter does not grant network access
Tesla says adapters for this service must be provided by the vehicle manufacturer. Supported vehicles with a native NACS connection do not need that adapter.
Follow the current instructions for your exact vehicle. Do not assume an adapter used for AC destination charging is suitable for DC Supercharging. Buying hardware does not resolve site eligibility, account requirements or vehicle support.
Check these before the trip
- Enter the correct vehicle details in the operator’s app or map.
- Select the exact site and confirm it is offered for that vehicle.
- Check the required connection against your manufacturer’s instructions.
- Review current pricing, access instructions and service information.
- Save a second usable charging option.
ChargingStops’ NACS filter is a connector preference. It is not a vehicle-compatibility selector or a live availability feed. A station’s inventory status cannot tell you that a port will be unoccupied.
At the site, verify the session has started
Follow the operator’s sequence and confirm the charger identifier before selecting a post in the app. Check that energy is actually being delivered before leaving the vehicle; payment authorization alone is not confirmation of charging.
If the session fails, use the operator’s troubleshooting and support instructions. Record the post identifier and message shown. Do not improvise with unsupported hardware to make a connection work.
Destination Charging is a separate check
Tesla’s Destination Charging offering serves longer visits at places including hotels and restaurants. Do not transfer Supercharger access assumptions to these locations.
For an overnight stay, use the hotel charging checklist to confirm property permission, the connection, fees and parking rules. Site access and vehicle eligibility are separate questions.
